Just thought I'd talk a little about some of the different venues that the band has played at recently. Our most recent gig was at the Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park in Live Oak, Florida, in the music hall from 7 - 10 p.m.. This is a nice venue to play. They have a decent sized stage, large enough to keep the band from feeling crowded, but still small enough to feel intimate. They crowds are usually very nice and appreciative of the band. You have to play pretty quietly in that venue, though, due to some bad acoustics. One of our other regular venues has been Tim & Terry's Music & More. This is one of Gainesville's best kept secrets, unless you hang out there, of course. There's not a whole lot of room inside, but you can hang out on the back patio or on the front porch and still hear the music. You can also take a seat up front at the counter and have a great sandwhich while listening to the music. We have played at Napolatano's, although not recently, and always enjoyed playing outdoors on the back patio. They have live music every Sunday evening from 5:30 - 9:30 p.m. There is more than ample room for a large audience, and although you can't play too loud there either, it's still a great place to play. The food is excellent and the servers take real good care of the bands. Our next gig is going to be the Sunshine Eagles @ Dubs. This is in the old Dubs Lounge building on 13th street and it may end up being the premier place in Gainesville to listen to live music again. There are three levels to the club and the music is great from any vantage point in the place. They serve great food and you can have alcoholic drinks there as well. There is a minimal cover charge of $3.00 for members of the Eagles, and only $5.00 if you're not a member. They have live music every Friday and Saturday from 8 p.m. to midnight. The club is open to everyone those two nights, and the sound in there is great, although, once again, the band probably can't play too loud, at least for the first two sets or so. There are a few other places we've played, such as Floyd's Diner in High Springs (out on the patio) which we've enjoyed tremendously, although it's a little rough playing on a Thursday night when everyone in the band works for a living. There are many other clubs in Gainesville that have bands most evenings, such as 1982,Lillians, and the Side Bar. If you are familiar with any other clubs not mentioned here, feel free to tell us about them. Live for the music! | |
